Much of the Weirdstone Trilogy<\/em><\/a> is concerned with various journeys made by the principal protagonists – Colin and Susan Whisterfield – through the east Cheshire landscape. Whether this be their initial trip from Wilmslow<\/a> to Highmost Redmanhey<\/a>, the flight of the fugitives from the Mossock’s farm to Shuttlingslow<\/a> or, Colin’s long-distance run from the Beacon<\/a> to Shining Tor<\/a>; journeys are an important part of the stories. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alan Garner<\/a> expert, Dr Neil Philip<\/a>, has noted that The Weirdstone of Brisingamen<\/em> “is essentially a long series of flights and pursuits<\/em>” (A Fine Anger<\/em> 1981, 12). Perhaps this should be no great surprise given Alan Garner’s great attachment to the landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This section of the website will be concerned with some of those journeys. It should be considered a work in progress as more of the routes are traced and photographed in the landscape. The best way to appreciate them will be in combination with the locations<\/a> and map<\/a> pages. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
